WMU Libraries purchase access to licensed electronic resources on behalf of Western Michigan University. License agreements usually stipulate that authorized use is restricted to current WMU students, faculty and staff.

Authorized users may typically: download, print and copy individual articles, book chapters or other items on a limited basis; provide links to items on a publisher's website.
Authorized users may not: systematically download, save, print or distribute substantial portions of information (e.g. download all articles from a journal issue) or utilize agents such as scripts, agents or robots to retrieve information or create derivative products; send an article or items to a person who is not an authorized user; post an article or item on the internet or open Web without permission; remove, obscure or modify any copyright notices.

WMU Libraries also provide access to free resources that permit unrestricted access.
